Padlock of Love

1st Aug 2012

Padlocks of LoveLove (English), Laska (Czech), Gra (Irish), حب (Arabic), Amar (Portuguese), Amor (Spanish), Amour (French), Amore (Italian), Lieben (German) are some ways to say love around the world.

I’m sure you have heard the song, “More than words” by Extreme. So what is a good way to display your love without saying it? Sure you can do stuff at home, but let’s face it… that’s boring. Why not do it on a lock? All over the world, there are special places where you can place a padlock of love.

Uber romantic right? I think so. The idea is to write your name and your love’s name (or get it engraved if you are feeling extra special) on a padlock. Together, both of you lock it on the bridge/fence, depending on which location you are at, and throw the key in the river. Now you are stuck together for life. Ok, maybe not but it does give a good reason to come back someday and spark up an old flame. Want to visit one of these places? Here’s some of the locations that I know of:

Vancouver Island, Ucluete in British Columbia, Canada
Hohenzollern Bridge in Cologne, Germany
Milvian Bridge in Rome, Italy
Ponte Vecchio in Florence, Italy
Ha’Penny Bridge in Dublin, Ireland
Pont de l’Archeveche in Paris, France
Most Ljubavi in Vrnjacka Banja, Serbia
& word is that the Brooklyn Bridge now has a collection. Hopefully New York will keep it up!

Go love someone. It’s good for you.
